Dude I didn't mind the Gladiator but she wasn't getting the kind of impact she wanted with it. I thought the Carmen was very her. But damn, I want something edgy from her. Like Ciara's cover of Paint it Black or something. I've seen her skate to Skyfall live and I enjoyed it! More of that, but not that exactly since Wakaba just finished with it.
They could always do one edgy program and one lyrical/theatrical. David Wilson mentioned he like to see what skaters are doing in their other programs so he can choreograph a program that's different. Maybe Lori should follow that suggestion.
gabby stopped the 3lz-3t sometime before 2017 worlds... to focus on the 3t-3t
one of the things that helped this is the rise of the 3t in BV to 4.3 and the lowering of the 3f from 5.5 to 5.3... so the margin before was about 1.5 in bv and now it's just 1 point... which she makes up for easily in GOE.... and also, when she misses her flip, she can get an edge call.
So .. yea it's great for the SP.. the issue though for me is the LP. doing the 3t-3t combo cuts down her potential for big combos...
before she could do 3lz-3t, 2a-3t... so a version close to kaetlyn's layout but replace the flips by lutzes... so even more BV...
but now she is stuck... unless she acquires a half loop combo 2a-1/2loop-3s, she is stuck at the end with a 3s-2a sequence.. i think those look really hard to do but ISU doesn't and removes 30% off the base value for that jumping pass. So... she does lose BV there.
what she could do is a satoko cop out program... (she did that previously in her career)
2a-3t 2a-3t 3lz 3lz-2t-2t 3f 3lo 3s
there, the repeated triples are the same, there are still 7 triples and 2 2a.. but no hard combo for the same BV... it could be looked down by some judges though...

well the PCS : don't forget she just turned 20 and it's been growing gradually... consistency brings the high pcs nowadays... i think she is not far from what she deserves on PCS, when she skates well... when she doesn't, judges won't hold her up though. In a couple years, with all the work she is putting, she would be in the top 5 pcs league IMHO. now she is 5-10 league. Kaetlyn is older, the russians are consistent.
In the SP, the 3-3 with 3lz on steps is not that bad compared to girls doing a 3f-3t with loop... kaetlyn is one of the few who has both the lutz and flip in her SP. the only one who stands out BV wise is Aline because she does have the 3lz-3loop combo. if we do the bv maths
gabby combo is 8.6 and solo jump is 6 = 14.6 medv combo is 9.6 and solo jump is 5.1 = 14.7 many girls 3lz-3t = 10.3 + 5.1 loop = 15.4 Kaetlyn combo is 9.6 + 6 on solo jump = 15.6
alina combo is 11.1 + 5.3 on solo jump = 16.4
i didn't add the 2a everyone does nor factor backloading.
my point here is that medvedeva, like Gabby has a lower base value in SP but still racks up the PCS... look at no lutz Kostner!
In the LP though, it does become more of an handicap... and don't forget that PCS in SP are on 40... but in LP on 80... so that gap is doubled
that's why i suggested the satoko layout as it gives her MORE points on BV than what she is doing right now.
The reality though is simple : when gabby skates well, she can go on the worlds podium... there is no doubt about it... She just had a very tough season and I bow to her for what she still managed and are incredible higlights
WINNING CANADIAN NATIONALS over current Silver World medalist and future world champion WINNING OLYMPICS TEAM GOLD contributing with a CLEAN LP.
SKATING ALSO A CLEAN SP AT WORLDS (which was slightly underscored fair enough)
seeing how easily she can just tag a 2a off a 3s, and looking at her body shape, I am hoping she tries the 3a seriously. It would give her an advantage also in the SP, not only in the LP and this is where Gabby needs to go : get on top after the SP , so she doesn't feel that she is always chasing during the LP, and not only chasing but chasing with a BV deficit...
