You know what? I love that Gabby peaks when it matters. She proved beyond a doubt at Nationals that she should be doing the Team Event and in the TE she delivered. It's her image that news outlets used to declared Canada had cinched the gold. Because she got it done. And all this after surgery and only coming back to skating 3 weeks before 2017 Finlandia Trophy.
1. Olympic Team Event gold 2. World Championships bronze medal 3. Four Continents silver medal 4. 2 Canadian National titles
What a skater!
And yet she has to prove herself again and again. If she were skating for the USA with this record she would be given more credit and would be rewarded more especially in her PCS. Look at Gold - she has no 4CC medals or world medals and only a Olympic Team bronze yet the judges still gave her the benefit of the doubt in her PCS even when she was on the downward slide.
I am sure if Gold had been here and had a skate like Gabby did she would have been at least 5 points higher!
I went to see Stars on Ice in 2016 and realized when the Challenger Series came about that Kaetlyn used her SOI events to work on her jump stability. I'd love Gabby to do the same, and maybe try out new combos too. I really like that the Japanese skaters actually perform their new programs during ice shows and always wondered why the Canadians don't do it. I guess they don't want to get sick of their music? But if that's the case then at least they can try out different combos and layouts.
