The very best part was the musical entertainment/ad for Art on Ice. If there is a video of just that part, I would recommend it highly.
I predicted every winner (except Kurt and most entertaining). I wanted Aymoz to win most entertaining, but I suppose the had to give P/C something, so that was it. I felt some of the awards (in particular most valuable) were based on career achievements rather than just this year. Not a bad idea this year, but is Yuzu going to win every year, until he finally retires and gets the lifetime achievement award?
From a technical point of view, the video and audio got notably out of sync for me. Did that happen to other poeple as well, or is it just because I was not watching in real time and was starting/stopping/rewinding etc?
most valuable to a country like japan??? well i don't agree... shoma is the national champion, japan has 4-5 top notch and very valuable girls..to me a most valuable skater would be someone from a country who is not filled with stars, like Javier ... someone who brings attention to the sport with its excellent skating and results... nathan chen is much more valuable in that sense, reviving american singles skating...
p/c bore me to death... entertaining : what about FBS bond or the brits vogue???
costume, they got it right... choreo, i'd say they got it right too... shae lynne is doing incredible work these days... personally, i don't really think we need these... especially in a year without worlds... they could be fun after olympics or a world team trophy... but based on GP and euros/4cc... zzzzzzz
I think Hanyu deserved the most valuable award if it is based on a longer period of time, not one year. Also, they don't say most valuable to who: Japan, the ISU, communities like Kelowna that benefit from his attendance at events? I think he is most valuable to the latter two.
If they continue these award in future years, the awards will probably honour more "quirky" choices, like the disco Brits. For this first one, they wanted to pick "big guns", rather than "best this year".
I think it's undeniable the financial impact of Yuzuru. The ISU also has sponsors linked specifically to Yuzuru, so he had to win this to keep them around.
I am not sure any of the skaters who won this year will win again. Obviously Kostornaia cannot win again for newcomer. Yuzuru has his prize now, so it's good for him but maybe not again, because they need to highlight others as well.
In the future they need to nominate actual costume designers, not skaters, for their costume design. And include skaters from other feds.
Sorry, I am a bit late, the awards gone some time, well but, its still July 2020.
@pingu - I agree with all you said! Concerning the win of Hanyu there was a big discussion in Germany about the definition of MVS: Its the financial impact Hanyu has, not the last season where he wasn't so brilliant.
